Sonic Rush Adventure
For Nintendo DS
Publisher: Sega Of Europe
Developer: Sonic Team
|
Sonic returns to the Nintendo DS in an all-new frantic adventure. It’s a well-made platform game and what makes it so good is that the devs, the chaps who did the Sonic Advance games on GBA, seem to have a lot of good ideas for things Sonic could be doing above and beyond what he did on the Megadrive.
Firstly its setting is engaging through an "Ocean-themed world", where Sonic and Tails travel through 7 different islands each containing its own widely diverse level. Sonic can use ships, submarines, and other vessels to travel along the sea to defeat the pirates.
Once again the majority of the action is in 2D, as our athletic hero zips around levels doing all sorts of hair-raising stunts complete with dizzying dives, near vertical curves and brain twisting loops. Sonic Rush Adventure therefore will retain the DS action that fans loved so much from Sonic Rush, as well as providing a new high seas adventure. However, when you reach the end of a stage and face up against a boss, you'll be thrown into 3D mode, which will span both of the DS screens. The epic 3D boss battles spanning both screens will test gamers skills to result in an ultimate showdown.
The stylus aims to be put to good use again, particularly when you venture out to sea to battle against the nefarious Captain Whisker and his hardy pirates - using the touch-screen controls to easily navigate the rolling ocean. But it isn't just swarthy sea-dogs you'll be running rings around, as you'll also encounter robotic dinosaurs, explore ghost ships and race through mysterious forests.
The core action is still looking like what you'd expect from the best 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games, with a real twisty, rollercoaster feel as you watch Sonic speed and bounce through the levels. The action still dips and dives between the top and bottom screen, and characters seem to have much of the same dash and aerial trick moves that they had in the original Sonic Rush. Despite the speed at which the island and steampunk levels we saw passed by, we still noticed a terrific amount of detail. We are also impressed with its improved action stages. With all-new action-packed gameplay, you will be able to snowboard down an avalanche, springboard off giant mushrooms, hang glide across wide gaps, and much more.
Sonic Rush Adventure also makes full use of the DS Download Play feature and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which enables gamers to compete with friends in wireless racing and mission-based battles.
So then, Sonic Rush Adventure will be well liked, and deserves to be.
